guards – GUARDS (EP-2010)

Two days ago there was nothing about the band Guards on the net. But then suddenly everyone started talking about them. Quite an accomplishment for an act that a mere forty-eight hours ago was completely unknown by nearly everyone. Now they find themselves on the verge of receiving praise on a more wider scale.

All they’ve done is having released their EP on Bandcamp for free and featured the hyped Cults, which I claimed a Band To Watch back in March, on one of their songs. But giving the EP a listen, you’ll surely understand why everyone is talking about them! It’s one of the best EP’s I’ve heard in a long time!!!

Band To Watch: O Children

At 6ft 8” tall, Tobi O’Kandi isn’t your average looking lead-man of a four piece London band currently causing a huge stir in Europe. Then again, O Children are a far cry from any other band you might be listening to this Spring…unless of course you’re listening to early Cure, The Chameleons, Sisters Of Mercy, Bauhaus, Joy Division or Echo & The Bunnymen right now.

O’Kandi, the bands lead singer and chief songwriter channels the undeniable inner and outer workings of a true front-man, reminiscent of the days when the late and great Joey Ramone and Lux Interior ruled the roosts and during a time when to be a freak was to be truly punk. With singles such as “Dead Disco Dancer” or “Ruins” to introduce them to the world, it seems these four lads – still only 19 to 21 – could quite have possibly created one of the most exciting sounds and band to come out in 2010. Now they’re currently finishing their debut album in a Kent countryside studio, and due out this summer.

New songs from Devo!

DevoDEVODEVO! Really what more do I need to say? The name Devo may be short for “de-evolution,” but a reunited, rejuvenated Devo are doing anything but devolving right now. As a matter of fact, it looks like things are actually going in the other direction at Devo Inc. Pretty special for a band that was huge at the end of the 70ies!

First their iconic Energy Domes (yeah, those red, pyramid-like hats) got a makeover and are blue now. So did their entire uniforms, actually. That’s a form of evolution, you know. Also riding the tides of the times: Devo is about to make use of the uniquely modern tool known as crowd-sourcing. But enough said: Here are two great new songs!
